THYROID HORMONE THERAPY

The thyroid hormones are directly related to our metabolism and to the production of energy mainly in the mitochondria. Loss of hair, and change on the menstrual cycle, aching muscles, low energy, excessive loss or weight gain, constipation, dry skin, changes in our basal body temperature and other symptoms could be signs of thyroid imbalances. A complete workup including blood analysis usually is able to confirm the thyroid dysfunction, either a hyper or hypo thyroid condition.

It is very important to consider sub-clinical hypothyroidism in the treatment of possible thyroid disorders. Normal ranges of thyroid hormones are not necessary an indicator of a normal thyroid function. In the treatment of thyroid conditions, it is also important to look to the symptoms but mainly to help the patient to feel at her best. A reverse T3 is always important to be evaluated during the treatment of thyroid conditions. A complete picture of a thyroid blood profile is always necessary during the evaluation.

Many factors are involved in the production of T4 and they are important to be consider during the thyroid hormone replacement therapy including iodine, B vitamins, vitamins D, C, E and minerals such iron, zinc, selenium and others.

Toxins such mercury, lead, pesticides, cadmium, fluoride, decrease the production of thyroid hormones. Autoimmune disease also interferes with the metabolism of the thyroid hormones. Each one of us is unique.
In treating thyroid disorders as well as any other condition of the physical body, please keep in mind that an integrative approach to treat the patient as a whole is always necessary.
